A Bible Study Poem, Michael R. Thornton, August 2014
Grab your Bible and Read the passages before each section:
The Prelude
Genesis 1:9-13
Land and Sea, Grass and Seed,
Herb and Tree, This I see,
God was pleased- the third day.
The Prophecy
Genesis 22:4
Abraham, that man of faith
Lifted up his eyes to see the place
Moriah, chosen of the LORD
God had plans- the third day.
Genesis 22:1-19
The wood upon his son he laid
The fire in hand and then the blade
With agony they topped the hill
It was again- the third day.
Where is the sacrifice? His son did ask.
Then bound, he laid him there at last.
The knife he raised had done its deed.
For this, it was- the third day.
The LORD provides himself a lamb.
Jehovahjireh, the great "I am"
The sacrifice for all of faith
Let's not forget- the third day.
The Proposition
Genesis 42:18
The Dread of Justice upon their breasts
the brothers here- could find no rest
Till Joseph himself to them revealed
Twas then upon- the third day.
The Preparation
Exodus 19:11
The Demand of Law requires the death
of all who gaze upon the Blessed.
But God would speak- His word He gives.
It was upon- the third day.
The Picture
Number 19:12
Deliverance from the dread disease
that separates the soul from ease
The leper came his praise to bring
upon this day- the third day.
The Provision
Matthew 16:21*
The Great Creator of all things
the Son and Heir of everything
the Substitute, the Sacrifice
that gives His chosen ones new life.
The Dread of Justice no longer fear
For Mercy doth for'er endure
Demands of Law are satisfied
The Sinless One has come and died.
Disease of sin removed and cleansed
Complete in Him, new life begins
Bring praise to Jesus Christ, our Lord
who rose upon- the third day!
Let us not forget- the third day!
* Also, Matthew 17:23; 20:19; 27:64
Mark 9:31; 10:34
Luke 9:22; 13:32; 18:33; 24:7, 21, 46
Acts 10:40; 1 Corinthians 15:4
